Race report
Mirsky set a strong early pace from the off and was ten lengths clear of the field on the turn with Blue Brother, sitting in mid-pack one off the rail, travelling smoothly under James Doyle. As The Lost King emerged from the pack to reel in Mirsky, he passed him easily to take up the lead and win. Blue Brother galloped on gamely but couldn’t ever get on terms with the placed horses. He didn’t weaken, however, and finished encouragingly to take fifth.
Preview
A valuable, hyper-competitive festival mile handicap: this race draws a similar field to the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot and Goodwood’s Golden Mile. Our contender, Blue Brother, has run in both of those in the past, but took in the 7f Buckingham House Handicap at the Royal meeting this year, not beaten far in fourth. As ever in these packed fields, the Hamad Al-Jehani trainee will need things to fall his way – but, having been a nose second at Listed level as a young horse, he has the class to win, and a rain-softened surface will be to his liking.
