Race report

The third festival appearance of the summer for Final Objective – and his best performance yet. He broke alertly, but still only towards the back of midfield, and launched his finish from behind the eventual winner, Arapaho Gold. He never managed to reel that horse in, but ran on most courageously, really sticking his nose out, for a determined but ultimately foiled second-place finish, beaten half a length.

Preview

A 6f challenge for juvenile colts paradoxically named in honour of an 18th century star who never ran until he was five, and never at less than four miles. The Gimcrack Club was founded at York in 1776 in his honour, and this race was first run at the initial Ebor Festival in 1846. Our contender is trained by Hamad Al-Jehani and defied long odds to run a good race in defeat in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, a traditional staging post on the way to this event. Final Objective won a small race bloodlessly last week, proving his well being, having been rather surprisingly beaten into fourth in a maiden race at Glorious Goodwood. The owner of the winner – or their proxy! – is obliged to address the Gimcrack Club at a special dinner in December.
